Typical Comet pump installation

Agitation drive mechanism (Guard removed for clarity)

Because our sprayers are generally used in applications that require higher spraying pressures and higher volumes, we install large diaphragm pumps onto our sprayers.

Our pumps are powered by the tractor's PTO. They include a manual regulating valve that is mounted on the pump for coarse pressure adjustment. This valve regulates flow to a bypass line to increase or decrease your spraying pressure. It is adjusted manually during sprayer setup. Its design allows additional flow to bypass when boom sections are shut off.

Our sprayers are designed to operate best between spraying pressures of 150 psi to 400 psi (10-30 bar). The pumps will reach higher pressures, but spraying at consistently higher pressures will reduce the life of the pump. If you are interested in spraying at lower pressures, additional bypass lines should be installed onto the sprayer for this purpose. Alternately, you could discuss other pump choices with our sales department.

We have found the Comet pumps we use on our sprayers to be extremely reliable. With appropriate maintenance, they continue to perform as required. When they need to be repaired, the parts are priced very reasonably and are readily available.

Comet Pump Features

  • Positive displacement, diaphragm pressurization over oil bath metal piston with automotive type piston rings.
  • Uniform flow rate and pressure, unlike high wear leather cup.
  • Smooth rotary action, similar to aircraft radial engine.
  • Pump can be maintained in field without removing it from the sprayer and requires a minimum number of tools to replace diaphragms.
  • Lower cost than old style leather piston pumps.
  • Pump is supplied with automatic oiler with visual inspection, surge damper, and pressure regulator.

Although most of our sprayers are equipped with Comet pumps, we are able to supply you with pumps manufactured by Hypro, Ace, Delevan, and other manufacturers. Call our sales department for weights and dimensions. Contact our parts department directly for replacement parts.

A stainless steel shaft and paddles are driven off the pump PTO shaft to agitate our tanks. The system is easy to maintain and very reliable. Two paddles are mounted within each baffled tank section. Additional baffles are available upon request.
