American Ag. Foam LLC and Kennco Manufacturing Inc. are proud to introduce:
JACK FROST PROTECTIVE FOAM GENERATOR

"I didn't have any damage to my crop from last night's freeze."
"I protected my crop with only a couple of workers."
"I didn't have to use my overhead sprinkler or irrigation system."

These are not phrases normally heard by those of us who grow produce that is sensitive to frost and freezing cold weather. Imagine if it were possible to protect recently set young plants without supporting a large work crew to handle vast amounts of crop cover. Imagine if it were possible to protect ripe fruit ready for harvest without having to apply thousands of gallons of water through overhead irrigation. Imagine being able to sit in front of a cozy fireplace and enjoy the cold weather in the warmth of your home knowing that your crop was protected.

Now it's not a dream.

Pull this machine out of storage in the the afternoon when you expect a frost or freeze that evening. The machine applies a layer of nontoxic foam that covers your plants. The foam creates an insulating barrier around the plants that protects them from the cold air and traps heat rising from the bed. The foam sticks to the bed and the plants under normal wind conditions, and will remain in place for a period of 24-36 hours. The foam dissipates with higher air temperatures and sunlight.

Foam Specifications:

  • Foam is made from a patented three-part chemical mixture developed by American Ag. Foam LLC.
  • Foam is non-toxic and safe to use on food crops.
  • Foam lasts 24 to 36 hours at 32° F.
  • Foam stiffens after about an hour providing better resistance to wind.
  • Foam dissipates rapidly as temperatures rise.

Applicator Specifications:

  • 600-gallon liquid tank.
  • We are currently working on improvements to our vegetable/row crop machine, and a new nursery machine as well.  Photos show the model sold for the winter of 2005-2006.

Estimated Performance Specifications:

  • Initial testing has shown that you can expect a temperature difference of at least 10° F between the air temperature and the temperature inside the foam at the plant leaf surface. This temperature difference can vary tremendously depending upon the air and ground temperature when the foam was applied and other environmental factors. Temperature differences of 20-30° F have been achieved.
  • A 600-gallon tank can cover from 30-60 acres of produce depending upon the size of the plant being covered, the amount of foam required, and the available application speed.
  • Initial testing and estimates show that run time on a 600-gallon tank is about 2-3 hours.
  • Application speed can be from 10 acres/hour up to 30 acres/hour depending on application conditions.
  • Initial estimates show a cost less than $200 per acre to apply foam to a single row of plants 8" high using a 6 row machine.
  • (All application estimates are based upon initial prototype testing. Actual field performance will vary depending on your application requirements and conditions.)
