Mini-Combo Superbedder
Printable Catalog Page (opens a new window)

Combination machines pull and shape a raised planting bed and cover it with plastic mulch at the same time. This is a very attractive feature to many growers who are interested in minimizing the number of times they pass through the field with a tractor.

When deciding whether to use a combination machine or a separate superbedder and plastic mulch layer, consider the following:

  • Do you have a large enough tractor to pull the equipment? Combination machines are heavier than superbedders and/or mulch layers. You may not be able to pull a combination machine with the same tractor that pulls a superbedder or mulch layer.
  • Are you able to consistently form a fully-filled and solid high quality planting bed? Because the combination machines cover the bed as it is shaped, it is difficult to visually inspect bed quality. You may not know if there are valleys or breaks in the bed that can create problems for the crop later.
  • Combination machines are usually longer and larger than individual superbedders and mulch layers. This means that they are less suitable for fields with undulating terrain.

With a skilled operator and good field conditions, combination machines can be a tremendous tool for the grower to keep production costs low.

Our mini-combo machine is very popular among our customers. Utilizing the sweeps and press pan of a standard superbedder on a smaller frame, it produces a quality planting bed equal to our superbedders. The back half of the machine consists of a floating high speed mulch layer.

A mini-combo machine accepts the following attachments:

  • A drip irrigation attachment that will hold a single or double reel stand. It is best used to lay a single line of drip tape.
  • Fumigation gas knives can be mounted on a mini-combo, but space is limited. It can be difficult to mount both fumigation knives and drip irrigation tape, depending upon your location requirements. A mini-combo is a good machine for fumigating your beds because it includes a press pan to reseal the fumigation slits.
  • Bedding disks can be used with a mini-combo machine, but space limitations may prevent the use of other attachments at the same time.
